YCB is hiring a Communications Associate

Reports to: Executive Director
The Communications Associate is the sole communications staff person for the Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board and is responsible for communications, IT and data base management. The Communications Associate supports all YCB staff in their communications needs but works under the direction of the Executive Director. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities include managing web communications and social networking, updating and maintaining data bases, production and dissemination of a monthly newsletter and other promotional materials through GovDelivery.com and providing Communications support to staff.
Qualified candidates for the position of Communications Associate will have strong project management capabilities and familiarity with various electronic platforms. They will also be well organized and flexible with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of management and staff, elected officials, members of the public, and youth from diverse backgrounds as well as outside partners and vendors.
I. Management of YCB Web Site
Update existing pages and create new pages as needed
Monitor Site for server and Internet problems
Update Site with latest information, create new links
Explore new website options and coordinate the transition
II. Coordinate the Development and Production of the YCB Promotional Materials
Write, edit and design YCB monthly newsletter for staff, board, and stakeholders
Write, edit and design YCB Fact Sheets, YCB Annual Report, and other collateral materials
Create flyers, posters, invitation, and programs for events for YCB and YCB affiliated events
Manage and develop YCB social media sites
Manage YCB Data Base
Develop and drive a marketing plan for What’s Up 612!
Assist other YCB programs with promotional materials as needed
IV. Assist the Minneapolis Youth Congress in their Communications Needs
Manage, with the MYC, their social media presence
Work with the MYC on promotional materials for meetings, conferences, workshops and events
Attend MYC meetings when necessary
Provide other communications support as needed
V. Manage YCB Media and Social Media Presence
Set up and manage digital marketing campaigns.
Write and distribute news releases and media alerts for programs
Create media opportunities that promote the YCB mission, goals and priority areas
Develop talking points for staff and YCB jurisdictional partners including elected officials
Provide media training for staff, Minneapolis Youth Congress members and others as needed.
Monitor media for information relevant to the YCB and disseminate to staff and partners
Measure results of all online marketing
VI. Manage and Support App Development
Oversee the continuing development of MYCepaz -the teen stress and well-being app
Research and oversee the development of new apps as requested by staff
VII. Internal Communications
Work with Minneapolis IT to implement new software
Review materials prior to mailing, publication for YCB staff as requested
Assist in the writing and editing of foundation requests
Assist the YCB staff in planning special events and in creating materials for events such as invitations, programs, material packets, banners, etc.
Work with YCB staff, when needed, to secure speakers and facilities for special events
Complete other activities as requested
BA Degree or equivalent in a communications related field such as journalism or English
Basic familiarity with content sharing tools such as SharePoint. Familiarity with the Microsoft Tools Suite and GovDelivery.com is helpful
Commitment to equity and a strong understanding of how systemic inequity creates and perpetuates community disparities
Ability to collaborate and lead cross-functionally to achieve goals and create deliverables
Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information
Experience managing a web site, social networking and databases
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize
Professional demeanor and experience working as a member of a staff team
Self-starter and flexible
Demonstrated ability to carry out core business activities such as writing high quality letters, descriptions, newsletter articles and web content and ability to proofread/edit others work
Experience working well with all levels of management and staff, elected officials, members of the public, and youth from diverse backgrounds as well as outside partners and vendors
Compensation and hours:
100% time, typically Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day
Staff are eligible for benefits including medical and dental.
Wage - $16.82 to $19.23 per hour
