Health Care Outreach Navigator/Paralegal

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (Legal Aid) is seeking a Health Care Outreach Navigator/Paralegal for its St. Cloud office. This position is grant funded and is a temporary 12-month position.

On-going funding is being sought.

BACKGROUND: Legal Aid's St. Cloud office provides civil representation to low-income people in nine central Minnesota rural counties. Senior Law and Health Care Outreach are provided in additional counties. The office receives funding from a variety of public and private sources and enjoys strong support from the organized bar. Legal Aid does not receive funding from the Legal Services Corporation. St. Cloud is a city of 60,000, located 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. There are three area colleges, community theaters, a thriving arts community, and easy access to state parks and the Lake Wobegon Bike Trail.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Navigator will provide assistance on health care issues, including providing information and application assistance. The Navigator filling this position will be based in our St. Cloud office, but much of their time will be spent in traveling to and assisting consumers in Crow Wing, Wadena and Todd Counties. Assistance to low-income individuals can include service work, other advocacy, outreach, and community education as appropriate to client and office needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Concern for the needs and rights oflow-income persons and victims of domestic violence is required. This position requires the ability to work positively within a law office, supporting co-workers while focusing on high-quality service to clients. Second language ability, particularly Spanish or Somali, preferred. Diverse economic, social, or cultural experiences are a plus. Traveling between outreach and enrollment sites will be required. Criminal background check will be required. Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Office required.

SALARY: The salary, starting at $32,088, is based on the Legal Aid salary schedule. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, family medical, life, and short-term and long-term disability msurance.
