General Crime Victim Services

We believe that all individuals who have experienced any type of victimization are deserving of advocacy and support to reduce trauma they may have endured. Cornerstone’s experienced staff provide services through a trauma-informed lens to help individuals rebuild their lives.

General Crime Victim Services advocates are available to speak with you over the phone or meet in person at our Minneapolis location. General Crime Victim Services advocates assist individuals by explaining victim’s statutory rights, offering emotional support, safety concerns, resources and referrals, criminal and civil legal advocacy, financial needs and filing Harassment Restraining Orders and Orders for Protection.

Our services are free of charge; conversations with Cornerstone’s advocates are confidential. It is not necessary to contact law enforcement or have an open criminal investigation to access our services.

What is General Crime?
General Crime is a broad category of offenses and includes property crimes and crimes against persons including but not limited to:

  • Burglary

  • Identity Theft

  • Homicide

  • Robbery

  • Elder Abuse

  • Fraud

  • Assault

  • Auto Theft

  • Property Damage

  • Victims of Impaired Drivers

  • Bias/Hate Crimes

  • Vandalism

Cornerstone’s Services for General Crime Victims:

In Person or Phone Advocacy: 
General Crime Victim Services advocates are available to speak with you over the phone or meet in person at our Minneapolis location. Advocates can assist individuals by explaining victim’s statutory rights, offering emotional support, addressing safety concerns, and providing resources and referrals,

Criminal and Civil Legal Advocacy:
Cornerstone’s advocates can accompany individuals to criminal court proceedings, family/civil court hearings and will help with safety planning, accessing necessary resources, and sharing information regarding the criminal and civil court process. 

Emergency Financial Assistance:
Cornerstone’s advocates can help individuals file a claim for reparations or apply for emergency funds for certain expenses related to the crime.

Mental Health Therapy:
Cornerstone’s therapy team utilizes a trauma-informed approach and is comprised of trained licensed therapists who can support, listen, assist in processing the traumatic event, and provide new healthy coping skills to guide survivors in their healing journey. For more information about our therapy services, click here.
