Juneteenth Fun Run

Join the Loppet for their annual Juneteenth Fun Run on Saturday, June 20, 2026! All are welcome to participate in the 5K or half mile run.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, recognizing the two-and-a-half-year gap between the Emancipation Proclamation and freedom reaching all people. It is a time to honor history, celebrate freedom, and work toward a more just future. In partnership with community organizations, the Loppet Foundation hosts the Annual Juneteenth Fun Run as part of its mission to connect people to the outdoors through inclusive, year-round activities in Theodore Wirth Park, providing skiing, biking, running, and outdoor education opportunities for all ages and abilities, including youth and neighboring communities.

Earth Day Clean Up

Each year, WBC brings together local business owners, community organizations, and residents to work collectively to clean and beautify the West Broadway Avenue corridor. It is one of seven designated cultural districts in Minneapolis. 

This year’s Spring Clean Up is made possible through our partnership with the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO).

The event will take place on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Volunteers will meet in the U.S. Bank parking lot located at 1030 W. Broadway, Minneapolis, MN 55411

All cleanup materials including trash bags, gloves, grabbers, and safety vests will be provided. Food and beverages will also be available for participants.

Faculty and university staff are invited to connect with residents, community advocates, and organizational leaders committed to strengthening partnerships between the university and North Minneapolis neighborhoods. This informal gathering offers a space for meaningful dialogue around community-identified priorities and opportunities for academic collaboration. The event will highlight ongoing efforts to establish a Women’s & Community Sports Authority in North Minneapolis, an equity-centered initiative aimed at positioning Minnesota as a national hub for women’s sports and inclusive economic development. Attendees will hear from a panel of initiative leaders representing the MN Vixen flag football team, Northside Bulldogs, Inner City Tennis, V3 Sports, Heritage Youth Sports Foundation, and OneMN, who will share nsights on their work and vision for community impact. Refreshments and light snacks provided.
