Passing the Torch invites Minneapolis youth to join us on March 11 from 5-8 p.m. at North High (1500 James Ave. N.) for an evening of community, conversation and connection with local artists, educators and creative leaders.

The event kicks off with a 5 p.m. reception, followed by a 6 p.m. panel discussion offering inspiration, guidance and insight into artistic practice, creative careers and making an impact in the community.

The symposium and panel features:

Seitu Jones – Multidisciplinary artist, advocate, and maker, Jones works at the intersection of arts and public life, channeling the spirit of radical social movements into experiences that spark dialogue and foster vibrant, just communities.

Peter Macon – North High School alumni (‘88), multidisciplinary artist and actor, whose visual work is rooted in abstract expressionism and Afro-Futurism.

Peyton Scott Russell – North High alumni (‘87), Minneapolis-based professional artist and arts educator with over 40 years of experience. Russell has advanced graffiti as a teachable fine art.

Esther Callahan – Independent curator, arts consultant, and creative entrepreneur, Callahan has spent over 20 years creating platforms for cultural production and dialogue across the Twin Cities.

Ta-coumba T. Aiken – Twin Cities artist, arts administrator, educator, and community activist. Recipient of a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship, and a Bush Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, Aiken focuses on public art and collaborative projects.

Passing the Torch is geared toward high school-aged youth interested in the arts, along with their mentors and anyone passionate about supporting local creative communities. All are welcome – the event is free and open to the public!
